Last updated: 11 October 2026 ยท App: Scrollometer (package com.bufferlabs.scrollometer) ยท Developer: Buffer Labs Studio1. What the app does
Scrollometer shows a playful "scroll meter" on the edge of your screen while you watch Reels, Shorts and similar short-video feeds, and converts the distance you have scrolled into funny comparisons (for example "you scrolled a giraffe").
2. Use of the Accessibility Service API
To work, Scrollometer asks you to turn on its Accessibility Service ("Scrollometer scroll sensor"). Before you do, the app shows an in-app disclosure explaining this, and you can decline. The service is used only for the app's core features:
- Detecting scrolling in supported short-video apps (for example Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Snapchat, Moj, Josh, Likee). It reads only the scroll amount and the layout identifiers of the scrolling list, so it can tell a short-video feed from other screens.
- Knowing which app is in front, so the meter only appears inside those apps.
- Drawing the meter overlay on top of those apps.
The service does not read or store text, captions, comments, messages, usernames, passwords, images, videos, audio or screenshots, does not perform any actions on your behalf, and does not observe any other app.
3. Data stored on your device
- Distance scrolled, time spent, number of swipes, speed, streaks and high scores.
- Which supported apps you scrolled in (app names only), used for a few achievements.
- Achievements you unlocked and your settings.
This data is kept in the app's private storage on your phone. It is never transmitted off the device, never sold and never shared with anyone, including us.
4. Notifications and widget
If you allow notifications, Scrollometer shows one ongoing notification with today's distance and a pause button. The optional home-screen widget shows the same information. Both use only the on-device data described above.
5. Your control
- Pause or resume measuring any time with the big switch in the app, the notification or the widget.
- Turn the Accessibility Service off in Android Settings โ Accessibility.
- Delete all data with "Reset all stats" in the app, or by uninstalling it.
6. Children
Scrollometer is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone.
7. Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address with a new "last updated" date.
